On behalf of In House Productions
and the City of Barrie:
A special thanks to all of those who made the 2010 Ecofest Barrie a resounding success. Oh yes it rained, but spirits were never dampened. Special Thanks to the Members of Transition Towns for creating a warm and enthusiastic Green Oasis Tent. Not only did we have a chance to get out of the rain, but we saw demonstrations on "how to" in gardening, repurposing, and were amazed by the Rain Barrel designs from local artists. Transition Towns created a true Oasis that turned out to be a great place to be to meet and discuss many of the options for a sustainable future.
Many thanks to the Barrie and Area Chamber of Commerce and Habitat for Humanity for putting together a beautiful presentation in the Giant Speaker's Tent. Habitat auctioned off the furnishings, and offered free water purifiers and a great staff of helpers to see things through. The Chamber support to this event shows that members are truly committed to a greener and sustainable future for all. Thanks for allowing us to shift presentations of the Trashfusion Design Awards to the tent – we never did believe that it would rain on our parade...but you helped out cheerfully.
To all of the vendors, sponsors, musicians, speakers who came out and braved the elements...you are very much appreciated. Special thanks to our volunteers from Katimavik who are always willing to bring sunshine to any situation.
To our sponsors – City of Barrie, Rona Building Centre, Power Stream, Yanch Geothermal, Corus Radio and the Barrie Advance...we could not have gotten this far without your contributions.
Festival attendees enjoyed the day despite the rain. We learned about Geothermal from Yanch and Next Energy's grand presentation, experienced the new green direction from the Board of Education, enjoyed presentations from a wide variety of green options and much more. Plans are underway to be even better! A 2 day weekend for 2012.
Be sure to check back for dates.

Georgian Mall has been awarded the Tourism Green Champion Award by Tourism Barrie. The Tourism Green Champion Award was presented to Cadillac Fairview - Georgian Mall during the first annual EcoFest Barrie on June 12, 2010 in Heritage Park.
"This is the first annual Tourism Green Champion Award that has been given out by Tourism Barrie", said Kathleen Trainor, executive director of Tourism Barrie. "We feel it is important to recognize Barrie businesses in the tourism industry, that show vision, leadership and have made an impact through their environmental practices, and waste reduction", Trainor said.
"The judges were very impressed with the environmental standards and practices Georgian Mall has implemented in the past 18 months. They currently participate in the Cadillac Fairview Corporation Limited internal Green at Work program, focusing on energy conservation and efficiency, waste management, environmental protection, sustainable procurement, and communication.
